PCI DSS compliance

To help reduce the level of card fraud, it is mandatory for any merchant accepting card payments to achieve and maintain PCI DSS compliance. This helps to protect sensitive cardholder data, but can carry a significant financial cost that can run into millions of pounds for large retailers.

Ocius Sentinel is the UK’s first Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) approved solution which utilises point-to-point encryption (also known as end-to-end encryption) at the terminal.

How does Ocius Sentinel work?

Developed in-house by Commidea, the Ocius Sentinel software resides on the PIN entry device – PED, or payment terminal. It works as the card data is captured, and provides data encryption from that point forward. Ocius Sentinel only decrypts the data once it reaches Commidea’s PCI DSS Level 1 certified infrastructure.

As cardholder data is not decrypted until it arrives inside the secure environment of Commidea's ICP managed service prior to transmission to the acquiring bank, all sensitive card data is effectively removed from the merchant's system. This simplifies a merchant’s efforts to gain PCI DSS compliance by significantly reducing the size of the in scope network.

Ocius Sentinel goes beyond compliance, providing a range of additional features including PIN Entry Device (PED) Asset Management: PED serial number tracking and swap out/power on-off alerts to help thwart physical attacks on PED assets.
