Pre-Certified 'Plug & Play' Chip & PIN Solution the Best Bar None
Ocius, a Chip & PIN solution that requires no bank testing and can be integrated into an existing EPoS system, has enabled restaurant and bar chain Le Bar Group to embrace the brand new Chip & PIN technology at a stroke.

Ocius is a fast, effective and secure Chip & PIN system, developed by Commidea, the UK’s leading developer of credit and debit card payment processing systems. It removes the costs and growing queues for bank testing. The system is totally unique - approved by major UK banks, it requires no additional bank testing and can be integrated into EPoS systems for immediate functionality.

Like many organisations, Le Bar Group initially thought that to meet the fast approaching Chip & PIN deadline they had no choice but to join the queue and face spiralling bank testing costs. However, I Control Hospitality Ltd demonstrated that Ocius would eliminate that painful process entirely. A highly functional and versatile Chip & PIN solution that integrates into their preferred EPoS system, I Control.

Most retailers have become increasingly frustrated by slow progress on development of Chip & PIN technology, and are concerned that the threat of exposure to fraud will fast become a reality for them. Commidea, working in partnership with Verifone, decided to tackle Chip & PIN solutions through a much quicker route. They gained approval for a generic system of hardware and software that can be integrated into an EPoS system for immediate Chip & PIN functionality.

Ocius was developed to EMV I & II specifications, and suits most applications because it can be used in conjunction with two of Commidea’s card payment processing solutions – ICP or WinTi. The system is available in both a wireless and a networked version for use in a variety of environments. The wireless system utilises Verifone’s 3600 terminal and the networked system Verifone’s 3750 terminal.

I-Control advised Le Bar Group, who chose the wireless option, allowing them to process card payments at customer tables. The I Control sales management software & EPoS terminals, and the card payment terminals are all linked to Commidea’s ICP bank interface through CAM (Commidea’s Application Manager) back office system and a standard ADSL internet connection. The system authorises payments and passes them back to both the card payment terminal and EPoS system, reducing errors and removing the need for a reconciliation between the EPoS and EFTPoS systems.

The system was developed specifically for high street retail and hospitality sectors, and can be tailored to the user’s exact requirements allowing for tabs, cash back and tips to be processed.

“Like many similar organisations, Chip & PIN integration presented us with a massive logistical and cost problem,” commented Craig Douglas, Le Bar Group’s Managing Director. “By using I Control and Ocius we have effectively fast-tracked to the final stages of implementing the hardware and software, saving a considerable amount of time and money in the process.”
