Tunnel Vision For Ocius
Eurotunnel manages the infrastructure of the Channel Tunnel and operates accompanying truck shuttle and passenger shuttle (car and coach) services between Folkestone, UK and Calais, France. With hundreds of lorries, coaches and cars using the tunnel every day, it was paramount that Eurotunnel implemented the new technology quickly and with the minimum of disruption to ensure protection against any possible credit or debit card fraud. The ideal solution was Ocius, created by leading card payment processing solution developer, Commidea.
Adopting a different approach to delivering an integrated Chip & PIN solution - by moving the transaction away from the PoS and onto a Chip & PIN terminal – generic approvals from UK banks have been achieved. This means that organisations no longer have to spend time and money gaining individual approval for their Chip & PIN system. Instead they can simply integrate Ocius, in a ‘plug and play’ style, with their existing POS for immediate Chip & PIN functionality. This unique approach met Eurotunnel requirements precisely.
Ocius is available as a wireless and a networked system for use in a variety of retail and hospitality environments. The Ocius 3600 wireless system utilises VeriFone’s Omni 3600 terminal and the Ocius 3750 networked system, VeriFone’s Omni 3750 terminal.
Eurotunnel has specified the counter fixed Ocius 3750 system along with additional daisy-chained VeriFone SC5000 terminals, which can be passed to drivers to enable them to insert their PIN numbers from the comfort of their cars.
The terminals were simply integrated with Eurotunnels existing POS and linked with Commidea’s ICP ‘hosted’ payment server solution. Developed to EMV I & II specifications, Ocius can be also used in conjunction with Commidea’s WinTI card payment processing system.
