PCI DSS is the world-wide benchmark, created by Visa and MasterCard, to provide protection of cardholder identity and transaction information. It comprises of industry-wide requirements and standards which are supported by all international payment card system providers.
The purpose of PCI DSS is to ensure that valuable cardholder account data is secure, and all organisations that obtain, store, process or transmit credit and debit cardholder data including mail order, call centre, e-commerce, mobile and high street retailers must adhere to.
