Credit Card Machine shortlisted for Retail Systems Awards
Commidea and the high street retailer Poundland have been shortlisted in the 'Epos innovation of the Year' category for this year's Retail Systems Awards.
Following a joint entry, Commidea's market leading credit card machine - Ocius for PC's - was recognised as an innovative credit card solution that provided Poundland with specialist functionality to introduce Chip & PIN into their nationwide stores for the first time.
Poundland is Europe's largest single price discounter with a well-established reputation for quality products in the value retail sector. Poundland serves over 1.7 million customers every week from its 150 plus stores nationwide, with plans to open a further 75 stores within the next three years.
Commidea's Ocius for PCs solution was configured jointly with Poundland to deliver a fast, effective and hassle free IP based payments system that was right on the money from the start. This included new unique features such as not producing merchant receipts for PIN verified transactions, saving Poundland printing 3 million receipts per annum.
There were also very specific training requirements as none of the Poundland stores had traded with a card payment solution before. A specific training service was created for the sole purpose of ensuring the training of over 4,500 store colleagues would go as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Now all stores can take card payments, Poundland can see how easy the credit card machine is to manage. In the next 12 months, sales will process through electronically without any real effort. This transaction information can be viewed and their entire terminal estate managed at a touch of a button via Commidea's unique web-based Management Information System.
Commidea's Ocius for PCs solution also ensures Poundland can be adaptable for future advances like Contactless Payment systems, mobile phone top-ups and loyalty/gift cards.
The winners of the Retail Systems Awards 2007 will be announced at Grosvenor House in London on the 1st November.
