PIN Entry Device (PED) Security: Best Practices
The Payment Card Industry (PCI) has introduced standardised security measures due to rising concerns that sophisticated criminals have the ability to tamper with PED devices and collect personal card data. If devices are not secure (usually pre-PCI PED approved), criminals can install programs to collect personal card data, which is either stored on the terminal for the criminal to collect, or in some cases can be sent wirelessly to another off-site computer.
